WSFF: short films as a shared experience

A short film programme can bring together very different approaches to storytelling: fiction, animation and documentary. Characters, rhythms and perspectives change, while the cinema remains a shared space. This meeting between films and audiences is central to the experience we want to create at Warsaw Short Film Festival.

WSFF is a separate short-film initiative and should not be confused with Warsaw Film Festival. We welcome filmmakers from different countries, including first-time directors, amateur creators and low-budget teams. An international competition means that entries can come from around the world; it does not mean your film must have been shot abroad.

Atlantic Cinema: the screenings and gala venue

WSFF screenings and the final gala take place at Atlantic Cinema, Chmielna 33, 00-021 Warsaw, Poland. Its central location makes it a convenient meeting point for local audiences and visiting filmmakers. Before travelling, check your route and allow enough time to arrive without rushing into a screening.

The event date is not a complete screening timetable. Session times, the gala schedule and admission information will be shared through festival announcements. Submitting a film does not automatically reserve an audience seat. Check arrangements for filmmakers and general audiences separately rather than assuming they are the same.

Planning your day as an audience member

When exploring the programme, consider the length of each block as well as its genres. Several short films viewed together can be an intense experience. Leave time between sessions: comparing stories that initially seem unrelated can be just as rewarding as watching any single title.

Check the language of each film, the available subtitles and the practical information for your screening. If you need details about venue access or specific accommodations, seek confirmation before travelling. A general festival description should not be treated as confirmation that every accessibility arrangement will be available at every session.

  • Save the date: 18 June 2027.
  • Check the venue: Atlantic Cinema, Chmielna 33, Warsaw.
  • Read the current programme and admission information before visiting.
  • Allow time for travel and breaks between screening blocks.

What WSFF offers short filmmakers

For a filmmaker, official selection is an opportunity to present a film alongside other short works and reach people outside their immediate circle. Every film in the Official Selection receives WSFF laurels, with permission to use them in further promotion to indicate the status actually awarded.

The festival has two main awards: the Jury Award and the Audience Award for Best Film of the Festival. These sit alongside category awards and individual filmmaking awards. Promotional cooperation with local media and support for building industry relationships are planned for award-winning films, but media coverage is not guaranteed.

From submission to a confirmed programme

Entries are submitted through FilmFreeway. The regular deadline in the rules is 28 February 2027; an additional period ending by 31 March applies only if announced. Selected filmmakers will be notified by 10 May. Check the current entry form for available categories and applicable fees before paying.

Compare your film with the rules before submitting, and read the latest organisational announcement before planning travel. The website states the event date and venue, while the rules also explain possible changes. If information affecting your own entry appears inconsistent, contact the organiser rather than relying on an editorial guide alone.
